Our Mission:
The Southern Pine Inspection Bureau is directly accountable to the manufacturers of Southern Pine for the credibility of their product in
the market place. This credibility is maintained through:
- Uniform and universally acceptable grading rules
- Fair and impartial inspection criteria
- Certifications backed by a financial guarantee
- Grade marking under responsible and competent supervision
- Supervision of grading and manufacture
The Southern Pine Inspection Bureau is more than an inspection agency. The SPIB supports the Southern Pine industry through a broad program of
standardization of grades and manufacturing practices.
Grading Rules, Training and Production Surveys
The SPIB publishes grading rules under which 95% of the production of the entire industry is classified and sold. To qualify for a SPIB grade-marking license,
a mill must have well established credentials in the manufacturing, seasoning, and grading of Southern Pine lumber. The SPIB maintains an extensive training
program, both in a classroom setting and at the mills. Through the employment of highly qualified instructors SPIB is able to assist manufacturers in achieving
and maintaining the quality that their customers require.
The SPIB grade-mark is recognized within the market place as a symbol of integrity which enhances consumer confidence in Southern Pine lumber products.
This is a result of efficiency on production lines, and above all, consistent, proficient performance by lumber graders. Appearance of these grade-marks constitutes
assurance by the manufacturer that their Southern Pine lumber product is properly manufactured and meets the grade requirements of their customers.
